Title of the Keynote: The Art of Understanding: Bridging Human Cognition and Machine’s Language Learning in AI

Abstract: In this keynote, we will explore how the human brain understands language and how we can train machines to do the same. While humans can quickly grasp the meaning of words, sentences, and context, replicating this ability in AI systems is not straightforward. Machine learning models are trained to process language, but it’s really challenging modelling deeper understanding as semantic comprehensions that humans naturally have. This talk will look at how we build AI systems, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU), to better understand language, not just by recognizing patterns, but by capturing the meaning behind them. By comparing the way humans interpret language with how machines learn, we will discuss the current challenges and opportunities in creating more intelligent, language-understanding machines, that move beyond syntactic analysis to true semantic understanding. The goal is to explore how we can move closer to machines that truly understand and generate human language, much like we do.
